- Lets not get too down just yet, hes not hiring an agent, and its doubtful that he will impress enough to become a high first rounder. This could just end up being an evaluation of where hes at, and what he needs to do to get better.

Hubba said...

Yep as most people thought he and Patterson would do. It's status quo so no worries.

TheGreedMan said...

I'm far less worried about this than I would be if it were PPatt..

Patterson only has to move up a lil bit and he will be lottery, so that, my friends, is scary..

Chud, about Pastnor and Memphis, I dont think its gonna change too much b/c he only coached with Cal for one year. Great recruiter or not, he had nothing to do with the team that went to the NC..

greedo

Shamisoshea23 said...

- If Patterson cracks lottery pick he should go this year, hes just taking a risk coming back otherwise. He will never be a top 5 type pick, and an injury or bad season would hurt his stock. It will suck, but unless he just wants to play his junior season, if I were him I would go if I was between the 13th and 15th pick. Maybe Im wrong but I just dont see a lot of up swing in his status.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

shane, i agree... sort of. i'm curious to see what he can do when he's got another skilled big or two on his team; perhaps he can work on his face-up game. just a thought.

greedo, that's what i was getting at. i don't see Pastner being a problem for us, ULESS he was the main recruiting contact for any or all of Wall/Henry/Cousins. And even if he were, i just don't see Memphis having any greater advantage over other schools given the fact that the guy is totally unproven on the court.

TheGreedMan said...

I think he has said that the main reason to come back would be because he can graduate with one more year. That and because he hasnt even played a tourney game yet.

I would really like to see him come back, but at the same time if he is going to go I would like to know so that we can go after cousins and orton.

Shane, do you think there is any chance of us getting and starting them both if Patterson leaves?

I know Orton is a back to the basket player, but I'm not sure about Cousins.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- I think everything is wide open right now Greedo, recruiting is really in flux. I think its all a guessing game at this point, but at least some of the chips will start falling soon.

I don't think there's any way that Meeks goes pro unless he somehow manages to shoot up the draft list. I don't see that happening though unless he just doesn't want to a)go to class anymore b)play for Calimari or c)live without PP.

I would suspect that PP will go pro, but there's definitely a chance he'll be back. As Shane said, I don't think there's really much more room for him to move up the boards now or next year. Perhaps he could add a couple of new elements to his game, but I don't think they'd give him the kind of draft movement that would make him come back for sure. I don't think he'll be lottery, but I don't think he needs to be to go. That said, apparently the dude loves the college life so I could see him staying another year I guess. Although I think it's doubtful. Too much risk for him to stay, whereas there isn't for Meeks because nothing is guaranteed for him.

Twill be interesting to see what happens with your alls Cats. I bet you guys are kinda on edge right now with excitement and worry, very similar to me when I was waiting for Star Wars Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith to hit the big screen. Hopefully your alls team turns out better than my feelings on that movie did.

Hubba said...

It just sucks when a player holds the coach up from recruiting or not. Cal could use the schollys if any of them decide to leave. They would be missed but definitely replaced with STUDS.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

shane, any idea on when we might find out the eligibility status on Pilgram and Liggins?

MediumHeadCHUD said...

I took the following from a headline on The CatsPause:

"Whispers: UK recruiting dominoes set to fall?

by Jerry Meyer of Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting
DeMarcus Cousins is the No. 1 recruiting target for the new Kentucky coaching staff. The odds are very strong that Cousins will announce his intention to follow Calipari to Kentucky and that could be the beginning of some big news on the recruiting trail for the Wildcats. ..."

(Cue sinister laughter)

daddy fabulous said...

i too just read that bro. sinister laugh indeed!!

hopefully this will be the headline in the near future

"Dominoes Fall - Every top player in the country de-commits and signs with UK"

playafromdahimalaya said...

I know I am in the minority here, but I really don't know why Meeks would stay for another year (even if he is not a 1st round pick this year)...the reason I say this is two-fold:

1. He had an amazing year, and despite the fact that the Cats could be significantly improved next season, I don't see him improving his draft stock that much more...

2. Even though JC is a major upgrade from BCG, the reality is that whenever a new coach comes in, it is always dicey for upperclass players with NBA dreams (especially upperclass players that are not certain NBA players, but rather on the fringe...like Meeks) because the coach brings in a new system, and usually, new players. No matter how bright a player is, it takes time to get acclimated to a new system...couple that with your teammates having to get used to a new system, and your production is likely to drop.

Bottom line: does anyone really think that Meeks stock will improve with another year since he will have to learn a new system and play for his 3rd coach? Just curious...it may actually improve, but that is a gamble...and as a senior, I don't know if that is a gamble worth taking.

Let's just all hope that Varnado returns, that way STATE will be SEC preseason favorites since they will be returning their entire team (minus Brian Johnson) and adding a top-50 talent in Shaun Smith....STATE STATE STATE!!!!!

playafromdahimalaya said...

As for PPatt, I think he should leave...but also, I could see him staying...in fact, this is gonna sound weird, but although he is a virtually a 1st round lock, I think it would be less of a gamble for him to stay than for Meeks to stay.

Also, think you guys get Cousins...

Oh yea, Buttmuch, you owe me some money now that Meeks declared, right?

playafromdahimalaya said...

sorry, suppose to read Buttmunch...not Buttmuch

Sorry everyone....

Sorry

MediumHeadCHUD said...

if meeks' decision is made in a vacuum wherein his only consideration is the improvement of his draft stock, he'll probably leave. not everyone thinks this way (see Psycho-T, who, from my understanding, stayed b/c he likes the college experience; and serves as an appropriate benchmark for meeks given the widespread skepticism of how their skills will translate in the NBA).

i agree with the "new scheme = learning curve period", but from what i've read, Coach's system is not much of a system at all, in the sense that their are virtually no set plays, and the players just try to "do they man." to your point, though, i don't see jodie directly flourishing under such a system, but rather from the spacing it will (hopefully) create whem matt pilgram gets unlimited ISOs from the top of the key

playafromdahimalaya said...

I see your point on the Psycho-T comment, but I think the analogy is misplaced somewhat. Tyler knew he could come back and get his. He knew he could come back, (a) his productivity would not fall(average 20 and 10); (b) compete for a national title (his team went to a final 4 the previous year); and (c) his draft stock would likely not drop. I am not sure any of those things can be said with any amount of certainty regarding Meeks (only had one super productive year, has only won 1 tourney game in 3 years)

I think for Tyler, he knew he would remain a late 1st-rounder regardless of when he left. Moreover, Tyler knew he could stay and his team would be a fav for national title. Lastly, Tyler knew that if he stayed and won the title, it was quite possible that he would go down as one of the most, if not the most, decorated and accomplished players in college bball history.

Another important point, Tyler produced at an amazing rate for 3 straight years...Meeks on the other hand, produced greatly for a single year (although he is not a flash in the pan by any means because he did have moments his frosh/soph year)...

The reality is that it was much less risky for Tyler to come back than it would be for Meeks to return...

As for Cal's offense, I am not sure how it actually operates, so not sure how Meeks' game will fit in...he may be a match made in heaven, I just don't know...I do know, however, that it takes time for teams to become familiar with a new system...and that learning curve is something that a senior with fringe-NBA chances cannot afford IMO unless he is sure it will work out in the end (that he will be a more marketable player to the NBA in the end)...I don't think that is a wise gamble at this point.

Hubba said...

I can tell your a Football guy Rav but that's a solid point. I understand what your saying and I agree.

Football has that hilarious turnaround too.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

i'm not being coy, but i honestly don't know what difference it would make if jodie went late first round or somewhere in the second round. he can shoot his mind out, but quite frankly can't beat an above average defender off the dribble. his shot's not gonna leave him, and he could certainly benefit from a year's worth of working on the above deficiency. he may not average 20+ next year if he returns, but he'll possess the same, if not better, skills, so i just don't see how his stock could materially drop. i think if he were to leave, it'd be mostly the result from a) unfamiliarity and uncertainty toward the new staff, not b) because he thinks his draft stock will fall. [i understand that a) and b) are potentially linked].

my thoughts are that at worse, his stock won't materially drop, whereas at best, he could push himself up on the board (possibly to late 1st round) by addressing weaknesses that teams exploited during the second half of the season, namely: i) forced shots; ii) inability to break down his defender; and inability to move smartly without the ball.

at this point, he kinda is what he is -- a great shooter/scorer, who competes and hustles at a very high level, yet ironically slightly greater than one-dimensional as a player. if he goes now, perhaps it's a move to ride a wave of interest that has tapered-off significantly since the first half dozen games in SEC-play.

daddy fabulous said...

rav, i said that they'd be back next season. i didn't say that they wouldn't enter their names in the draft, and comeback after they tested the waters. the bet is still on my friend

- Summary, Chris got some really cool news on Wall and Cousins and Nolan Dennis, and something very interesting news about BCG and Bledsoe.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Go to Kentucky Ink for the next few days and Chris will be releasing the info, all his blogs are free and that is where most of it will come.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Please keep anything that you didnt read at Kentucky Ink from Chris confined to us, anything you read at his site obviously do what you will.

- Also just heard MM claims Cousins committed to UK, but that guy isnt very reliable so we will see.

Shamisoshea23 said...

daddy fabulous said...

two visits eh?

i love the fact that we're all still up talking about this

Shamisoshea23 said...

- One thing about all the Jodie Meeks discussion from earlier, I dont thing whether or not he as a more productive season this year is the determining factor in his draft status. He has some peoples attention, even if his numbers are down but he showcases new skills he can move up a little. I think their is a chance he will go undrafted this year if he decides to stay in.

daddy fabulous said...

truer words have never before been spoken, shane.

he has the attention of the mob now

throw the ball threw the net, and hear them roar.

Hubba said...

If he has a good camp he's leaving.

If he could Rashad McCants-like then a team will take a chance on him in the Second round for sure. McCants got in the lottery for one simple reason, at his workouts he hit 75/100 3's. Yea that's right, he shot 75% from NBA range. When you can stroke it like that infront of GM's you will get the call. He's not the best ballhandler but his are way better than Jodies. He also had NBA skills already though but they are the same size.

Jodie can play D too so that is another thing that can get him drafted. He will play the 2 most likely but he can help a team if he's in the right fit.

I don't know why anybody thought recruiting would be any different with Cal. This shouldn't be a surprise at all. It is exciting but getting them to gel will be the toughest part. It can be done though.

TheGreedMan said...

Oh baby, and so it begins!!

I just hope that this doesnt run off Orton, I read he would open his recruiting if we got Cousins.

All we need now is that stud PG, unless of course Liggo or Gallo step up.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

"The person I spoke to today said that Bledsoe to Kentucky was a formality before Billy Gillispie was let go and that now things are are a little more up in the air. Bledsoe's coach did say that UK is in his final four--along with Alabama, Florida and Cincinnati--and that John Calipari has been in contact since assuming his new post.

But Bledsoe may never get to pull the trigger. The source said that Bledsoe's recruitment may hit a bit of a Wall.

Take from that what you will."

I LOVE IT!!!!

"- I feel like I just met Luke Skywalker and he told me I was the coolest guy in the galaxy."

This ^ made me laugh.

"And he gave me a lightsaber."

But, this ^ REALLY made me laugh!!!

Congrats on getting Cousins guys, if you all really wanted him. I've seen some UK fans go either way on him on ITV. Sounds like Chud changed his tune and is glad to have him aboard. My UK guy told me that the excitement around the Calipari hire still looms in Lexington. He did say that there are some people who are worried that him being in the $EC will not translate the same way as it did in C-USA though. Well, maybe "worry" is not the correct word. Perhaps "concern" is a little better.

It'll be interesting to see what else happens in BBN over the next couple weeks.

Cheers!

Shamisoshea23 said...

- I helped him come up with the Wall comment last night, hehe.

- Yeah that was the Bledsoe stuff, we all read where Coach Cyph said that we had an elite PG locked up for next year, and it looks like it was/is Bledsoe. The addition of Bledsoe would have given BCG a really nice class, Hood, Orton, Vilarino, Bledsoe, and Pilgrim ( though he considered part of the 08 class.) I can understand why all the assistant coaches felt like the team was going to take off under BCG next season.

- John Im glad somebody enjoyed my Star War humor.

- I doubt he can win at the clip he did in CUSA myself, but if he can continue to recruit star players to UK hes gonna win a lot of games. I just wonder if we will be able to hold North Carolina in the all time wins next season, I can handle losing the lead cause we can always get it back, but I want UK to be the first team to 2000 BAD.

- That reminds me that Dave called me yesterday and told me that the Vegas oddmakers had UK and UNC as the favorites to win the national title and UL as tied for 2nd. I havent seen this for myself, but it did strike me as odd on all the 3 counts. I dont really expect any of those teams to win the championship next year at all, UNC going to be reloading, UK is coming off an NIT, and UL will be tough next year but I envision them as more of a top 15 team with an outside shot of making the Final Four.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- John on your blog or this one I would appreciate a break down of the Cards 09 class, I dont even know if you all are still trying to add anyone or not. The ones I know are Siva, Buckles ( who Chris says is an absolute stud), and Van Treese but dont know much else about them or your all's expectations for the class.

BRDD said...

Shane, those future odds are ALWAYS jacked up. None of those 3 teams are going to challenge for the title next year. They just lay the odds that way because they know that some stupid doofuses from those rabid fanbases are going to bet big cheese on them. They make so much money off of those future odds it's embarrassing.

I bet J-Lud has already put $110 on UK. And I know I already threw $20 on UofL.

I just wonder what STATE's odds would look like if they knew what kind of absolute lunatic fan Jason is?

daddy fabulous said...

i'm not a moron, john. i only put 109.99 on it.

Frustrating news

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Kept hearing rumblings that Orton would leave if we landed Cousins, if Pat stays then we will still be stout up front. Cousins is ahead of Orton in all the rankings I've seen, but I really wanted to see Big Daddy O in Blue.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Me, Chris, and Brent watched the All American game again last night, and the thing I took from it was that Cousins seemed kind of raw. He is huge, he can move, and he can shoot a little, but hes going to need some development, naturally. I have a feeling that his upside is higher than Ortons, but I have a feeling Orton could make a more immediate splash. Maybe Cal can get him to stay, or perhaps if Patterson does go pro he'll stay, this one isnt over just yet.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

this stinks. is UK completely out of consideration now, or is Orton just starting from scratch?

MediumHeadCHUD said...

not so fast, Chris just posted that Orton has not yet asked UK for a release... hmmmmm

Shamisoshea23 said...

I kinda wish UofL didn't have most of their next 3 classes linesd up so I could be excited.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- It seems like Larry Orton and Daniel Orton might not be seeing eye to eye on this, there are quotes from Daniel about his decision to re open his recruitment, but I think his dad wants him to honor it. This is gonna be interesting.

TheGreedMan said...

Maybe Orton will stay only if Patterson leaves. I think that would be ideal for us and him.

Nolan Dennis would be a sweet addition and back up plan in case Jodie decides he is gonna stay in the draft, even tho it isnt likely.

-On whether or not he is likely to transfer to UK.

"That could be a possibility," Dennis said. "That's what I would like to do. That's my first option. I would like to follow Coach Cal and play for him."

- I want this kid bad, he can shoot, and draws comparisons to Cory Brewer and Chris Douglas-Roberts, I hear he would be a monster in Cals system.

thanks, i've honestly become addicted to all the new updates. very excitind stuff. my bro and i were talking earlier and, "best case" (read: highly unlikely) scenario: we sign FOUR 5-star (LOL!) players, plus Hood and Dennis (i'm assuming a Henry signing wouldn't scare off Dennis, as the two were, i believe, set to play together at Memphis.)

I mean... WOW!!!

but alas, we don't have 18 scholarships:(

~still fun to just think about it. kinda like the thought of winning powerball

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Its a lot of fun to think about best case scenarios, even though we cant honestly expect things to work out that way.

- It seems likely that Orton really is leaving, the consensus seems to be that his Dad didnt want this info coming out before the game this Saturday. I really wanted Orton, but if you have to choose between the two you have to choose Cousins. Even if Cousins is a 1 and done and Orton would stay at least 2 years, having a 1 and done is big for your program in the long run. It becomes a huge selling point to the top recruits who are focused on getting to the pros quickly. Im not saying I want to recruit a ton of 1 year players, but a few will be good for recruiting.

- Chris was going to call Coach Cal tonight to ask him if he could come to the next practice but he found out he was on the recruiting trail, I wonder who he is working on tonight? Hes working on a lot of players right now, and we have no schollies, so I imagine he is setting up some back up plans for the potential of Meeks and Patterson leaving, Orton not coming, and maybe missing on some of his first choices. One of those targets is Solomon Hill, who Chris was going to call tonight to try and find out where he was at in his recruitment.

- I expect for Nolan Dennis to accept a scholarship as soon as we have one to give, I think the only reason it hasnt happened yet is because it would look tacky to offer him one, it would ensure that someone on the current roster would have to leave. As soon as someone leaves the team, I expect him to be the newest Cat.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

Shane, after these first few practices, have there been any indications of a player or players not getting love from Coach (i.e., not likely to play in this system)?

Shamisoshea23 said...

- I've found the lack of coverage with these practices to be really strange. Outside of a few comments by Matt Jones, I havent heard anyone with good information on how they've went. To me it seems like a big story, but your guess is as good as mine. Thats why it would be super sweet if Chris can get granted access to their final practice, we can have a mole of our own on the inside!

Shamisoshea23 said...

- I would have to guess Harrelson, Stewart, Donald Williams, and maybe even Perry Stevenson would not be very good fits for the system, but thats just my guess.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

yeah, i agree on everyone except maybe stewart. he's shown flashes of athleticism when not jacking up tough fadeaway jumpers, but this is all i have to go on regarding his potential.

i have to admit, though, despite the happy feeling i get at the thought of bringing in so many highly touted players, it still feels wrong to be happy that one of our current guys may be on the way out. i think harrelson definitely has some skills, but i guess if those skills purportedly won't translate to the new scheme, pehaps both the player and team would benefit from parting ways.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

also, i'd hate to "lose" Orton, but if that's his decision, so be it. Hopefully, Pilgram will be most of what he's been hyped up to be.

Shane, do you know much about Pilgram's game? I've read that he likes to shoot mid-range jumpers, and i've also read that he's "a beast," but the past two summers i've also read that "razon ramon has been TEARING it up in practice" so... . your thoughts?

daddy fabulous said...

bro, you saw what pilgrim looked like at the game we went to, there's no way that guy can suck. i mean, did you see that size of that polo logo on his shirt?

daddy fabulous said...

shane, you really think orton wants out of his LOI? it kind of make sense, but do you got some info that's swaying you towards this opinion?

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Ive only seen Pilgrim play once, and I thought he looked good, but Chris has seen him a few times and thinks he can be comparable to Patterson on the court. Except that he attacks the rim with more force.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Apparently Orton had already asked out of his LOI before Cal was introduced as coach, then they were OK with everything, then Cousins signs and the next day Meyers breaks a story with multiple quotes from Orton about reopening his recruitment. The timing seems too fishy to be a coincidence, this story has been around for a while, why would they write it today?

- I think they know it would be awkward at the Derby Classic this weekend, and Orton needs this All Star game to show his suitors hes 100% after missing his senior year with a knee injury, so he cant just not play in it like GJ Vilarino.

- This is just my opinion, but it seems to be shared with most who cover the program for a living. Perhaps it really was just a misunderstanding, I hope that turns out to be the case.

high layups

BRDD said...

The thought of the high layups premise is just too funny. Chud, I think you can imagine the kind of "high" I'm talking about.

Also:

"“This has been a decision weighing on my shoulders for a while,” Porter said in a UK Athletics news release Wednesday. “Being married, and now with my little girl on the way, my priorities have simply changed. I love basketball and will miss it a lot, but I think it’s the best thing for me and my family at this stage of my life. This wasn’t an easy decision to come to, but with a lot of thought and prayer, I have come to peace and am looking forward to the next phase of my life.”"

AKA: Hit the bricks Mike. But leave your practice jersey.

TheGreedMan said...

If he didnt tell mike to pack up his shit and hit the road then he most certainly told him he wasnt going to see the floor.

I think that would be a pretty good way to get rid of anyone, especially someone that was continiously boo'ed by their home crowd.

I was at the Miami game, and I boo'ed, I wasnt boo'ing Mike in general, just the decision to play him so much.

Dude sucked.

I bet Liggins is in heaven. Hated the old coach and regretted coming to UK, considered transferring and sitting out a year, then BOOM!!!

BCG's ass got canned and guess who comes walking through those doors, the other coach that recruited you, you know the one with the wide open offense that you like to run.

I'm not sure if Orton is gone, if Patterson goes pro Orton can still start. I like the fact that Coach Cal is recruiting another big just in case the shit doesnt pan out. Now that is how you cover your ass.

Sweet article Chud.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

fataman, the kind of layups i'm thinkin about are layups that resemble when a player throws the ball in the air after a big win. no way that ish gets blocked

BRDD said...

Booing your own players is the most BUSH thing you can ever do. Even if they suck. The only time I've ever booed was in a joking manner. It's just very distasteful and unclassy. The fact that you could hear the boos on tv several times last year was hilarious though.

TheGreedMan said...

I agree about booing your own players, I completely disagree about booing the fact that the coach kept playing him.

It was bad man, dude was getting straight worked.

greedo

BRDD said...

I have no problem booing a coach. I'm a UofL fan and I thought about booing Gillespie several times this year. That dude freaking sucked.

BTW, somebody on ITV just started calling Calipari by the nickname of "Crapapari". Think about how absolutely stupid, yet kinda funny, that nickname is.

Crapapari or Poopthorpe...which is better in your opinion?

TheGreedMan said...

I think Poopthorpe is more hilarious for 2 reasons-

1) You could just as easily call him Crapthorpe which actually sounds like his name, but you prefer to use poop for the comedy of it.

2) I think Poopthorpe is an appropriate nickname b/c he is absolutely awful..

I can see calling Coach Cal "Calamari" b/c you think he is slimey. But in no way is dude comparable in coaching or recruiting to Poopthorpe.

playafromdahimalaya said...

There is something up with Latavious...he is a freak athlete, but something is wrong with him...he is DYING to go to STATE (he is from Starkville), but the REAL RICK refuses to recruit him...many STATE fans are upset about this because all that is keeping us from being a really good team next season is having a solid PF...and here is a 5-Star PF from Starkville that wants to go to STATE....something ain't right...

Not to mention, dudes grades are hilarious...he was looking at Memphis hard because C-USA entrance standards are less than other players...from what I heard, he has the type of grade that nake Seth Meyers seem like Albert Einstein

Come on John, you werent one of the people that booed Mario during the Syracuse game two years ago when he was playing like a complete pussy? Confess your sins.

- The funniest COACH CAL nickname I've seen so far is Mini P. The coolest slogan I've heard for the UK hiring of COACH CAL is The Empire Strikes Back.

BRDD said...

That Seth Myers comment was top notch. I laughed out loud. And I also laughed out loud at Chud's drawn out response to it.

B-Man said...

Shane, I have never booed a player even though I would BOOOOOOOOOO Cory Procter oout of Dallas given the chance.

It would take KraggyPoo 18 commits to get to the total amount of stars given to Cal's recruits

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Poopthorpe > Crapapari in terms of how funny it sounds. How much would it take for Kraggs to win back the fanbase at this point? Jurich has to think that whatever this amount may be is feasible, or else he wouldnt waste a season that he didnt think would be any better than last, and be forced to fire him anyways, right?

- Just to throw out the first UK football pitch of the year, its going to be a very interesting season for the FBCats, with a lot of potential, IMO.

shane, i'm thirsty for intel!!! KSR is reporting that Jon Hoo said that "something changed, but i can't tell you what" to change his commitment to UK from 95% to 100%.

also, would y'all rather have wall or bledsoe? i've only seen bledsoe play, and that was only for a few minutes, but he looked pretty quick

Shamisoshea23 said...

"also, would y'all rather have wall or bledsoe?"

- JOHN WALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I watched him playing for Team USA last night with Henry and Cousins, and Im convinced UK would be a title contender with him at the point( and Meeks and Patterson to offer some upperclassmen leadership of course). I honestly think if we got him he would be the most talented player we've ever signed.

-Eric Bledsoe is good though, really good. Still as long as we are in the running for Wall we cant full court press Bledsoe, we have to roll the dice and see if we can land him.

- Chud this is the quiet before the storm for UK basketball, next 3 weeks will really heat up, and really we have to wait for some more roster defections before we can get commitments.

daddy fabulous said...

i just saw the highlight video of him on ksr, and the kids a FREAK!! if we get him we will win the championship next year by 102,000 points!

daddy fabulous said...

john wall will commit to UK on april 25th 2009. mark it down.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- As for the Derby Classic, I dont think I'll ever go again. It was really just a gutter war between fans, I got so frustrated listening to the kids get booed. You could tell that most of them were shocked by it, and it just embarrassed me for UK, UL, and IU fans.

- If you were a UL recruit UK and IU booed you, if you were a UK recruit UL and IU fans booed, if you were going to IU then it was UK and UL booing, if you were playing in the Big East or SEC or Big Ten you got booed, even the Kansas and UCLA recruits got booed. I just hated it.

- As for the game D Orton was such a man out there, he literally snagged every single defensive rebound that was in his vicinity, and funnily enough blocked each one of the UL recruits during the course of the game. I do have my doubts as to whether or not he will fit in the dribble drive, he is athletic enough, but he didnt make it past half court on several plays. Of course this was an all star game and Im sure wherever he plays his college ball at he will hustle up and down the court He was also noticeably limping. Still he was one of the guys who stood out on the court and I hope he comes, because he will make an impact as a Freshman.

- Jon Hood quite simply has ball game, he can shoot, he can jump, hes got a great mid range game, hes a talented basketball player. I dont think he will be an impact freshman, but I think he will eventually be a starter at UK. Ive seen him a few times now and I believe he is well deserving of his top 50 ranking.

- Nolan Dennis didnt play much and didnt do much, but I still hope we can find a scholly for him, he could provide the kind of depth that makes you a special team.

- As for the UL class, Siva and Buckles are obviously going to be ball players, Im just not sure how soon. The luxury for UL is that they dont need these two to contribute next year in order to be good. Siva looks shorter than I realized, but his game is so smooth and he made so many smart passes, hes gonna eventually be what UL has always wanted Sosa to be.

- I dont think Van Treese or Mara will see the court much next year, I cant judge too much from seeing them only once, but I doubt either will ever start for UL during their careers. Van Treese is a hard worker though, and Mara was stroking the ball in warm ups and during the 3 point contest.

This is a QandA with Jerry Meyer about all things UK, thought everyone might like it.

MyFanPage
Add Buddy
Jerry Meyer chat recap (full version in one post) Reply
Thought this would be easier to read and follow for those who missed the chat. Enjoy.

Q: What rumblings have you been hearing on John Wall potentially coming to Kentucky?

JM: Don't know that there are really any rumblings. Wall likes Coach Cal and was leaning towards Memphis when he was there. Still likes Coach Cal and as I wrote in my mailbag today, I think the question is home vs. away. Away=Kentucky. Home=Duke or UNC.

Q: Could you speculate on possible outcomes for Kentucky’s 2009 class?

JM: Extremely likely Dennis comes on board. Probably Orton leaves. Might snag Solomon Hill. If Dennis and Hill come could make Hood's situation dicey. Should get Wall if he decides to leave home, but my gut says he is leaning towards staying home.

Q: Do you see Nolan Dennis making a significant impact on whichever team he chooses, hypothetically UK, during his freshman campaign. Also what player would you compare him too?

JM: Think Ohio State's Evan Turner. Will take some time because of lack of physical strength and shaky long range shot. But with time Dennis could be very good. Wouldn't expect too much right off the bat. Again, look at Turner's progression.

Q: Any idea as to who Calipari is targeting for the Class of 2010?

JM: Certainly Joe Jackson from Memphis, Dominique Ferguson and then I'd just start at the top of the rankings and work your way down finding the guys that would fit into his system.

Q: What’s Calipari’s interest in Ferguson? Do you think he’s gonna go full bore after him? If son, what’s the chance he recommits to UK and Calipari?

JM: Focus right now is 2009, so I couldn't accurately gauge Cal's interest but Ferguson has the perfect skill set for Cal. Would think full bore. Think chances are good.

Q: How well does Hood fit this system?

JM: Hood fits in very well offensively. Puts the ball on the floor and scores off the dribble. Question with Hood in a pressure man system is his defense.

Q: Do you think Cousins commitment will help influence John Wall’s decision?

JM: Getting Cousins helps with Wall but only marginally.

Q: Do you feel that UK has a good shot with Eric Bledsoe? How serious is UK looking at Latavious Williams?

JM: Bledsoe is a tough one to get a gauge on especially since he is second to Wall. He is priority for Cincy, Alabama and Florida. Unless something has changed last couple days, UK isn't that serious about Williams. Pastner at Memphis is serious, though.

Q: Who are you looking forward to watching in college from this year’s class ? not just from UK, but in general?

JM: John Wall- sick talent
D Cousins- as offensively skilled big man as you can get
D Favors- could be next Dwight Howard
A Bradley- complete shooting guard and sick competitor
M Snaer- love his all around game and competitiveness
M Yarou- will give Villanova a dimension it hasn't had in years

Q: How does the 200 class stack up with the classes in the past five years?

JM: Love the top of this class but think it lacks depth as a whole. Like it better than last years class but probably not as good as 2007.

Q: Where do you see UK’s recruiting class being ranked in the end?

JM: Haven't studied it yet (new ranking comes out a week today) but would think top 5 now and potentially No. 1 with additions.

Q: Will Xavier and C.J. Henry visit before they make a decision?

JM: I don't know. Think if Kentucky is third behind Kansas and Memphis. If CJ knew he would be eligible, I think it is Kansas. He might not want to risk it, so he might stay at Memphis. Thex X has to decide with or without him. Never know because this will take time, and we know what type of recruiter Cal is. However, Self is no slouch.

Q: Do you think Wall will wait until the last possible day to announce his decision and do you think UK has offered Bledsoe or is he strictly a backup plan to Wall?

JM: Wall will announce on his own terms. He doesn't have to sign a LOI, so there are no time constraints other than the start of school. Bledsoe is a back up plan. Doubt Florida or Kentucy would take Bledsoe before he qualifies. Alabama and Cincinnati would probably take that chance.

Q: How will Hood be affected by the possibility of Dennis and others coming in?

JM: Hood wants to go to Kentucky and isn't afraid of competition. Cal will play a lot of guys. However, a lot of other schools are waiting for Hood to fall through the cracks. If Cal really wants Hood and thinks he can play for him, Hood will be at Kentucky. Odds are that he sticks, but it could get dicey.

Q: Could you describe Solomon Hill’s strengths and weaknesses and how serious is he about UK?

JM: I'll try to cover all things Hill related. Perfect fit for Dribble Drive. Best thing Hill does offensively is penetrate and then find shooters. Also is physical and rebounds and defends. Shot is just okay. Smart player. Versatile defender. He is a 3/4 who can do it all. We loved him right off the bat and ranked him top 30ish before anyone else even ranked him or thought he was high major.

Know that Hill was supposed to talk with Cal but am not sure if that has happened yet. If Kentucky offered, I think he would come. Hill gets it and knows his skill set would thrive in the DD. And he appreciates the Kentucky tradition.

If Hill and Dennis came, I would think that Hood would go elsewhere. That just wouldn't be a good sign for him to have two guys at his position brought in over him.

Q: What do you think will happen with Daniel Orton?

JM: My gut says he goes elsewhere. He is a lesser version of Cousins and I don't think they can play at the same time in Cal's system. However, Cal might convince him to back up Cousins and then have the spot his sophomore year and also dangle the possibility of them playing together. Think Orton is intrigued by how his game could develop under Cal. The scuttlebutt from about a week ago, however, was Orton to Kansas.

Q: How different will recruiting be under Calipari than Gillispie and Tubby Smith? Are there currently players that want to join the UK team next season that Calipari is turning down?

JM: As the Sun is the the Moon.

All the ones that committed except for Ferguson.

Q: Do you feel that Orton is a good fit for Calipari’s dribble drive system?

JM: Orton would be fine playing the five for Cal. Game is best suited, however, for a high/low attack.

Q: With Calipari at the helm, can we realistically expect to be at or near the top of the recruiting rankings for years to come? Is he really as good a recruiter as most believe him to be?

JM: Yes and yes.

Q: DeMarcus Cousins compared himself to Lamar Odom at the McDonalds AA Game. Would you consider this a good comparison? If not who is someone with similar game to his?

JM: Not a bad one. One reason I'm so high on Cousins is that I've never seen anyone like him. Best I could come up with was one part Moses Malone another part Magic Johnson. I like the Odom comparison because of the passing and court savvy. Cousins is much bigger though.

Q: Does anyone really have an inside track on what he will do or would you say everything is mostly speculation?

JM: All speculation except for what I say...lol

Q: I have heard several people mention that Coach Cal has been recruiting Kyrie Irving (2010) and Mike Gilchrist (2011) for a couple of years. Is this accurate and can you tell us a little about their game?

JM: Accurate.

Irving is a combo guard who is just good all the way around. Not necessarily outstanding at any facet. No real weakness. That is the read I have at this point but haven't seen a ton of him.

Gilchrist could end up the best in 2011. Extremely young, still growing, great motor, well rounded skill set that needs refinement. All depends on the refinement. Could say that he is a lock to play for Cal. Put it this way- World Wide Wes is Uncle Wes to Gilchrist.

Q: What are Kentucky’s chances with Brandon Knight, Joe Jackson and Kyrie Irving?

JM: Think you get one of those three. Believe Cal will try to recruit anyone he wants.

Q: Do you think Calipari is conscious of the sensitivity in the Hood commitment with Kentucky folks and that there is a possibility of backlash if he were to recruit over him with Dennis and Solomon Hill and consequently have Hood decommit? Which of those three do you feel is the better player?

JM: I think he is conscious of the sensitivity. Cal gets it, and what he really gets is the players he wants who he feels he can win with. Hill is the best of the three- physically advanced and ready. Hood shoots it better than Dennis. Dennis a little quicker. Both need to get stronger.

Q: Why would Orton consider Kansas when they look to have Aldrich, the Morris twins, Robinson and transfer Whitey in the post next year?

JM: Better post player than all but Aldrich. He might still leave. Kansas recruited him very hard. High/low attack.

Q: Can you describe Bledsoe’s game? How much of a player are we in his recruitment now with Calipari taking over?

JM: competitive, physical, do everything point guard, good but not great scorer. Type guy you want running your team.

Q: Is Jon Hood an impact freshman type player?

JM: contributor, not impact. must get stronger and better defensively.

Q: Can you speculate on why Lance Stephenson indefinitely postponed his commitment to Kansas during the time of the coaching selection/change at UK?

JM: Really don't know. Heard all the theories, but don't know. Does make my gut feel X to Kansas.

Q: Could you articulate the difference between Coach Cal recruiting at UK and Coach Gillispie recruiting the last two years at UK?

JM: It’s all about coach, system and getting to the NBA.

Q: If Bledsoe were to qualify, could we benefit more from him than having Wall as a one and done?

JM: Wall for one. Cal will just get another. Might not ever have a senior night again...lol

Q: What do you think is the biggest factor in John Wall’s final decision?

JM: Home vs. Cal. Playing time is no worry for Wall.

Q: Do you expect Hood or Bledsoe’s rankings to change much or stay about the same?

JM: Bledsoe will make a nice jump up. Hood will stay the same or slide a tad.
bigger though.

- Chris has really been hounding recruits today, he said even though its Easter they get no reprieve, haha.

- He talked to Mr. Im so Hood earlier, and he got the same quote about him not being able to say what made him change from 95-100. He sent him a text a little while ago and asked when he would be able to say what made him change his mind, and Hood responded that it would be a while. Anyone think maybe hes talking about Mr. Im so Wall? For the record Chris asked him if it was Solomon Hill and Hood claimed hed never even heard of him.

BRDD said...

Oh yeah, and if Wall is as good as Shane says he is then I really hope he stays home and doesn't come to UK. Not because I'm scared of the Van Damage he might do, but rather, because if a level headed UK fan like Shane says he's that good I just can't imagine what the typical moronic UK fans are gonna say about him.

I shiver just thinking about the Cat-Calls that will be on the radio if Wall commits to UK.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- John Wall is the goods, hes potentially the #1 pick in the 2010 draft, and the first sure fire 1 and done player the Cats will have ever had, if he commits. We have a good shot at him too, its kinda exciting watching a recruiting war down the stretch with the names UK, KU, UNC, and Duke headlining.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- As far as Peyton and Buckles, me using the word contribute was not accurate. They, IMO, are good enough that they will contribute next year, what I was trying to say was I dont think they will be big time impact Freshman. I cant imagine a Frosh taking too much playing time away from a Pitino Senior PG anyhow, but I think he will give quality back up minutes. Am I wrong in believing that UL is returning a very strong front court next year? Samdog, T. Jennings, Goode, and Swoopshire are all returning, and thats why I dont expect Buckles to have to contribute much in order for UL to be good.

TheGreedMan said...

I think you're right on Shane..

I dont however think Goode or Swopshire are all that good, so I think Buckles will at least play as much as them, by the end of the year he will prolly be getting more clock than either of those 2 IMO..

I think they are clearly going to be hurting at the 3 and 4.. Losing T Will and Clark is gonna hurt them bad.. Points, rebounds, assists, and overall leadership (from T Will, not necessarily Clark) are all going to major issues for the Cards next year..

I look for Delk to step it up a little bit, but he doesnt really compare to T Will IMO.. They will need much better guard play from Sosa and Smith to make up for the difference.. I think he might end up having to go small to get his best players on the floor..

IMO, Louisville's best line up will be

Sosa
Knowles
Smith
Jennings
Samuels

I heard he was already talking about playing TJ and Sam at the same time, I just wonder how effective they can be on the floor at the same time..

Only time will tell..

BRDD said...

Take it FWIW but one of MM's minions that I'm friendly with just PM'ed me and said that Orton is going to Kansas and that the kicker is that Henry is coming to UK. I haven't talked to this dude in a few days and he just emailed me out of the blue and told me this because I had bet him last week that all 3 of PP, Cousins, and Orton would not be on UK's roster next season.

Discuss.

I look for Delk and Swop to play the 3 next year hopefully. I then look for Buckles to back up the 4 and Goode to back up the 5 if TJ/SS do indeed play together as Rick has said they will. I still find it hard to believe though because SS can't guard a 4 man at this point.

We'll have the same 4 guard rotation we had this year, but with Siva instead of McGee. We'll definitely miss T-Will and Earl next year (especially early on) but my only real concern is at the 3 due to defensive liabilities. T-Will could guard the 1-4 spots without a problem at all. We won't have somebody like that next year unless Swop really brings it. I expect Delk to start at the 3 though so that's where the problem arises. He's a 2 IMO.

Regardless, I think we'll be a good team next year that will have a totally different look than we did last year. Our contributions are going to come from the 2 guard spots and 5 (perhaps the 4 if TJ/SS play together) whereas last year they strictly came from the 3 and 4.

Lots of numbers up there. ^^^

BTW, UofL is going to absolutely kick the sh!t out of UK next year in Rupp. It's going to be awesome.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Like I've told you all before Chris is in good with a guy who runs a Kansas website and he got an interesting text message today. I told you all last week that the guy told Chris Henry to Kansas was all but a done deal, but today he told Chris that " Slick Cal" has gotten to Henry and hes swaying towards UK. The kid is taking a visit after the 18th, if he hasnt committed to KU by then I think we have a real shot.

- What Johns guy is telling him about Orton is consistent with what a lot of people have been saying, that Orton wants to go to Kansas where there will be more emphasis on the high low. I would take the trade off however if we could wrestle Henry from them, in particular if Patterson returns.

- John Hollinger was at the Nike Summit and he came away highly impressed with Wall, and he thinks hes gonna be a top 3 pick in 2010. Hollinger sees basketball in ways I cant comprehend, so this is a good news for Mr. Wall.

- Please come to UK John Wall.

Shane that last comment had such a fuckin swag to it..

It was great..

I would love to get Henry in place of Orton assuming that we keep Patterson..

Hubs sold me on Henry when he said dude is so good you wont need John Wall.. Just look at how Evans ending up running the point at Memphis..

Dont get me wrong tho, Wall is far and above the #1 recruit I would love to have..

"Patterson's still a coin toss. He has to decide if borderline first round is good enough with the crop of bigs coming out next year. It's still up in the air in a big way with him, but he's always leaned toward coming back.

Tywanna and Buster are just not in the type of financial position to have to try to push it. They've got a good life going for themselves regardless.

Orton has a girfriend in Lex that he just broke up with and told he her he won't be back.

Wall and Henry may both wind up at UK. They had a meeting with Cal out in Portland at their hotel in the lobby after midnight to talk about things. Henry will now visit next week and Wall has seen all he needs to see. He's told ALOT of schools what they want to hear, so I still wouldn't be shocked to see him go elsewhere.

Brian Clifton, one of Wall's handlers, HATES UNC. I'd be SHOCKED if he went to UNC. Duke or UK for Wall, and KU or UK for Henry with Stephenson announcing this week between KU and St Johns. "

This is what Casey Johnson just sent me in a PM on ITV.

I just watched a video of Wall to see what the hype was about and I have a couple things to say...

1. Anybody can look good in a highlight film. And I mean anybody.

2. Nobody can look that good in a highlight film if they aren't that good.

3. Great handles, leaping ability, passing skills, quickness, vision.

4. But can he shoot? Didn't see him shoot one time.

Yeah, that comment had about as much swag as my nuts on Saturday morning.

Do you guys really think that you're gonna beat UofL next year?

Serious question.

TheGreedMan said...

Johnny we almost beat you this year at your house with a drunken douche bag of a coach..

Since then you have lost your 2 best players and we have added talent at almost every position, and something tells me that we will have added talent at every position before its all said and done..

I absolutely think we are goin to beat U of L this year at Rupp.

Depending on who we keep and who we bring in, we could absolutely crush the cards next year or just beat em pretty good..

And thats the way uh huh uh huh I lke it, uh huh uh huh..

- Wow, getting on here ruined my fucking night.

- Scroll through this blog, when was the last time anyone brought up our history, maybe its you who needs to get over it, and not waste time rationalizing it.

- I was obviously joking when I said I thought UK would win by 27 next year, but if you think its a sure fire bet that UL wins at Rupp then you are just as delusional as the people you are trying to make fun of.

- Heres a crazy notion to anyone who simply hates irrational UK fans, stop seeking them out. Dont listen to Cat Calls, or read message boards, then you wouldnt have to worry about the alleged bane of your existence.

- Hiring BCG and hiring JC is apples and oranges, what are fans supposed to do anyways, not support a hire?

- I dont care how low you go Czar, I for one will not take part in mudslinging, I'll just let it play out on the court however it may.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Czar, you're just so mean.

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Shag looked kinda sick for like 5 games his sophomore season, I was one of the people who thought we might have something there.

Hubba said...

I told you Czar hates UK more than I do.

I know this Wall kid is good but will he play team ball knowing he's leaving regardless? Those type of kids scare me because they will either be sick and help the team or have sick numbers and hurt the team.

Looking at UNC's roster in the past few years they usually don't go after clear 1 and dones. He usually seeks the 2 to 3 year type player to build the program then bring in a questionable 1 and done player. He has a ton of Freshman coming in so I guess we will see there too.

I don't know who will win the game but I do know it will be a good one. Last year I thought UL would win by 10+ but that didn't happen due to a certain coach going ZONE against a dude coming off dropping 30+ on teams. That plus turnovers almost costed them the game. Uk's team will be stacked with talent but getting it to gel will be the key. If the offense is not gelling I don't see them winning just because they are more talented.

Uk will have drivers against a team that plays primarily ZONE. It has man principles though but that ZONE is no joke. Being able to penetrate with their new players will be possible but hitting Mid Range jumpers may be the achillies heel. If they can't do that then I don't see them winning. Cal will be under a "little" fire too if he loses that game but at least he can rely on recruiting to get him a pass. UK hates losing to the SMALLER/RIVAL School.

I will never bet against STATE again Sone. NEVER...unless they play MD and I will put the pink slip to my whip up.

I don't think I can be a Newton and a U of L fan. That may be sacreligious. Although I think Jessie, Joe and Carla are the only U of L Newtons I know.

I have settled down with the Cal hire but I still don't like Arms Race's. I do however understand them.

What do you guys think?

I also don't know if I can play both sides of the fence. I guess when a team is good it's not hard to admit that.

I'm so excited for basketball season eventhough I'm more of a College Football guy.

Growing up in Maryland really makes you appreciate Lacrosse, which I don't, Field Hockey, which I don't and football. Basketball may be 4th tier-ish but we do love the Wizards. I guess having two Pro teams I was more geared towards the major sport than the understudy to appreciate what goes on in the world of Collegiate Sports.

Where majority of UK fans live for their Cats and I live for making sure my kid is learning something new everyday, then sports. It's all they have I guess and I'm from another world of Pro Teams, 6 D-1 schools and so on. I guess I don't get that vibe from U of L fans. Maybe they just aren't that passionate.

Who knows.

- Hubbs, Lacrosse is more popular than basketball!?!?!? If you tell me you're sick at lacrosse I'm going to laugh my ass off, never crossed my mind that you might have been a sick lacrosse player.

- As for 1 and dones, I think they are good for your program because it opens you up to the best of the best. If John Wall does come to UK and is a lottery pick after one year, on the heels of Rose, and Evans than the top guys in the country are going to be drooling to play for Cal. You still have to recruit solid players around them so you arent always rebuilding, but the good think about UK is no matter how sick a player is they will never overshadow the University.

- Hubbs, UK fans are just passionate, so many people hate on UK that they almost have to be. I think the success UK enjoyed during the 90s, overtaking the all time wins, 2 elite 8s, 4 Final Fours, 3 Championship games, and 2 national titles also through fire on the flames for our generation. The lack of a pro team contributes, but no pro team would steal too much thunder from UK.

MediumHeadCHUD said...

fellas, i don't necessarily like the thought of one-and-dones, but i do like the thought of a really talented player, so long as they play team ball. but back to 1&dones. they do, correct me if i'm wrong, count against, the academic success/graduation rate that schools have to meet so as to keep their 13-scholarship allotment, right? if so, i'd rather we not go after too many of these guys. then again, dean smith used to win big with only 6 players*.

*and a 38-minute time of possession with that "4 corner" offense. LOL!

TheGreedMan said...

Shane,

Dont let Hubs fool you, he has NEVER played Lacrosse..

He's not lying tho, its a big ass deal in MD..

I never went to HS there, so I never really experienced it first hand, but driving around town you would always see the proctices and shit..

Sone, what kind of wager are we talking here?? I'm pretty sure I'm already down at least $40 to you.. Double or nothing??

greedo

TheGreedMan said...

Chud, the fact of the matter is that once again its only a big ass deal because it's UK..

Nobody and I mean nobody has made that big of deal about it when it was being done at places like Ohio State.. They lost Oden and his friend the first year, and then turned around and lost BJ Mullens the very next year..

And look at how mush success they have had as a program.. BJ didnt do shit, but Oden and lil buddy took them to the NC game..

Its a part of the culture of college basketball these days and anyone that says they dont want them is crazy..

They are looking to expand the rule to 2 years from what I hear.. This wont really help the graduation rates, but I think it will allow coaches like Calipari that bring in the top talent to go after nothing but studs.. Can you imagine how sick we would be..

greedo

daddy fabulous said...

greedo, where did you read that 2 year thing? if thats true, and cal is able to bring in the top talent that we all believe he can then it's going to be awesome!

TheGreedMan said...

HM,

I didnt read it anywhere specific.. It has just been mentioned that they might try to change the rule..

greedo

MediumHeadCHUD said...

greedo, don't get me wrong, i'm totally agreeing with you afar as the upside, and i don't really care about the stigma against having 1-year players. i'm thinking more along the lines of other negative consequences. namely, the fact that if our rates fall too far, we'll lose the number of scholarships we can offer, and if our program turns into a glorified nba waiting room, we may suffer in terms of team chemistry and year-to-year consistency (see the erratic success of teams like florida and ohio state). this said, there will be only a few players who can make the leap after just one year, so we're not exactly facing an imminent problem just yet. although it does seem like Cal will be going after the very best players (i.e., players with potential to make the jump after just one year), so it'll be something to keep an eye on.

then again, if you can get the very best players year in and year out, then fall-off after early departures is much less of a concern

MediumHeadCHUD said...

otha, i agree. if the ncaa makes a 2 year rule, that would change everything

TheGreedMan said...

It will definitely change everything..

Look how much the one year rule has changed..

Now imagine if every player like Durant and Beasley had to play 2 years like Blake Griffin..

The thing about one and dones is that you really only need 1 of them on a team to make that much of a difference.. Look at Rose at Memphis, or Durant at Texas, or even Beasley at K State..

Yes, they were all surrounded by talent, but they were also the only true one and dones on their teams and they made a huge impact.. I think K State had Bill Walker who was a one and done as well, but he was coming off injury and was drafted on potential..

Either way, you get my point.. Take an absolute stud and add him to a team that has a nice talent base and you are going to get fireworks..

Hopefully Coach Cal makes it rain at UK, I personally think he has already started the trend..

the fact is we're about to land henry, AND JOHN FUCKIN WALL!!!

add those to meeks, patterson, and miller, and we will be the best team ever assembled.

all i need now is someone to give me those black uni's

Shamisoshea23 said...

- Chuds concerns are valid, we dont want the program to look bad, but at least it would be a problem that offered some positives in return, like national championships!!!! Besides we havent landed a for sure 1 and done yet, although I hear Cousins is probably going to be one, so we can always just cross that bridge when we come to it.

- Anyone feel like getting a Lacrosse game together, let Hubbs and Greedo showcase their stuff?

- Jlud I think we still have some stiff competition in order to land those two guys, but we sure as hell are right in the mix. I think we are going to get at least one of them, and at least if we miss on one or both we having Nolan Dennis waiting in the wing.

TheGreedMan said...

Shane,

there no is way I was claiming to know anything about lacrosse.. Especially how to play it or play it well..

Alls I know is that its not considered gay in MD to play lacrosse like it might be around these parts..

I think our program is going to rise among the hated programs.. Other SEC teams hate us, and as we start to "steal" recruits you can bet your ass were gonna pick up some haters along the way..

I think the only thing we have to worry about is the academic rates..

HM, I agree with shane, we dont quite have all of those recruits just yet..

While it is certainly nice to dream, hopefully we can say that we are going to land 3 5 star recruits and 1 4 star recruit for sure and that would be more than we could ever ask for..

I read some more that Henry and Orton dont like each other and will not attend the same school..

I wonder what this beef could be about..

greedo

MediumHeadCHUD said...

shane, there is NO CHANCE IN HELL that i will go near a lacrosse game. and it's not b/c i think it's gay. i don't. the thing is (and anyone who knows me will agree), i have perhaps the worse hand-eye coordination of any human being alive, and i just can't stand the thought of getting pelted by ball moving at triple digit* speeds.

*maybe i'm thinking of the speeds associated with another wild sport. yep, it's called "jai-alai" (pronounced "high-lie"), and boy does it look wild. just peep the world record for ball speed. OUCH!!!

as for henry and orton, perhaps their beef has something do do with the girl in lexington. after all, men have fought wars over such things, eh fellas.

OH NO!!

Wall considering the NBA?!

MediumHeadCHUD said...

in my opinion, there are two primary primary paths of interpretation to the rule, both of which lead me to believe that Wall will not likely be eligible for this year's draft

1) in order to be eligible for the draft, (1) nba season must elapse since the time of his HS graduation.

since he hasn't graduated, and thus 1 year has not passed since such graduation, the above interpretation would mean that Wall is ineligible for this year's draft.

2) in the case of a player who has not graduated from HS, in order to be eligible for the draft, at least (1) nba season must elapse from the point in time that such player WOULD HAVE GRADUATED from HS.

i think there are at least two ways of looking at this. but you must initially address which class Wall "should have" graduated with. remember, he's a fifth year senior, so should he have graduated in 2008 or 2009.

-if you take the first approach (i.e., 2008), the only way that Wall could be eligible for this year's draft is by NOT GRADUATING (i.e., dropping out) this year, so as to effectuate the "should have graduated" language and use 2008 as the period to being the tolling of the 1 year period. clearly, encouraging a player to make such a decision/allowing this loophole is contrary to public policy, and i would be surprised to see a committee reading the rule in this manner.

-if you take the second approach and say that Wall "should have graduated" in 2009, then you are again left with a scenario in which the 1 year period has not tolled, thus making Wall ineligible for this year's draft.

despite this, i believe that i read that the Committee will make its evaluation on a "case by case" basis, meaning that it can use its own discretion to decide Wall's eligibility. however, given the above straightforward interpretation alternatives above, a Committee that rules to the contrary would be going against the spirit* of the rule (i.e., allowing the a year off after HS/making SOME college quasi-mandatory)

*NCAA profit motives aside, conspiracy theorists
