Its UL TIME BABY, GIVE ME SOME TRASH TALK AND PREDICTIONS!!!!

It's UL hating time on Greedordie, though as you all know Im not a huge advocate of trashing the Cards because so many of my friends love them, I feel like in the spirit of the rivalry you gotta get nasty the week of. Seriously, how bad do you all want to win this game? How much shit have UL fans talked to you in the last two years, and even this year? If the dirty birds come in to Rupp Arena and get their asses handed to them, even a Card fan will have to shut up for a week.
I think Fantasy Island sums up a lot of UL fans, just stranded on some reality where they think Rick Pitino is the greatest thing in the world. For all the trash talked about our head coach, Pitino is a proven scum bag, who has failed to properly develop talent at UL, and has underachieved while wearing the red.

I mean, just look at that cover, what a joke that guy has become.
Honestly, what is going on in that picture? What the hell is Jerry doing?!
The truth is that the Cats are way better than the Cards this year. Across the board on paper we win this one by 10 plus, however we all know that the rivalry throws the paper out the window. UL was way better than us a season ago and look what almost happened on their home court. The Cards are playing better basketball, they can shoot well enough to give us trouble, and they need this game badly. They have no respect and no credibility nationally, and this is their chance to earn some and give them a boost before Big East play. They also have players that know what this game means, Edgar Sosa has mentioned UK several times this year, and it worries me with all our Freshmen that they might not be prepared for how hard UL is going to come at them. Outside the fact that we are the superior team, there are two factors which give me comfort. The first being Rupp, it was a factor against UNC and it will play a part Saturday, and the second is John Calipari. The players might not get this game, but Cal sure as hell does, you know he wants this one probably more than UCONN or UNC, which makes me believe he will have them ready. I think we are headed for a slugfest Saturday, and I cant honestly say I feel very comfortable about it, I think the Cards are going to bring their best stuff, and as long as we do too we win, but much less and the first loss of the season will be an extra painful one.

UK Football State of Mind

This guy has the tools, he seems way ahead of where Dre and Hartline were as SOPHOMORES, let alone as freshmen.

Ever since STATE came in and took the legs out from underneath a promising football season I've been thinking a lot about the state of UK football. I feel like were at a crossroads as Papaw Brooks reaches the end of his run as UKs coach.
Rushing the field after this win is as fond a UK memory for me as when I celebrated our 6th and 7th championships.

Lets make no mistake about it, CRB is a hero to this University, and dont let any haters say otherwise. I know UK football hasnt become a powerhouse under his direction, but we have become a school that can hold its head up when other fans start talking college football. Things havent always been perfect, the first few years were brutal, and even in this 4 year run of respectability its never as satisfying as you want it to be. The formula for the successful CRB team is as follows, you will beat all the out of conference teams that dont have SEC talent, you will give an SEC opponent you arent expected to beat a real scare and then fall short, you will upset one SEC team that you werent supposed to beat, and you will lose at least one toss up game that you need come bowl season. Make no bones that the last 3 and a half years have been way better than we are used to, but things are changing. Which is why I wonder if Joker Phillips is the right choice to take over the reigns when Papaw hangs it up in the next 2 years.

This guy will do a good job, but the question is will just good be enough for the future of UK football?

Dont get me wrong, Joker will keep the staus quo if he remains coach, or at least keep it very close. I think that recruiting will be better under Phillips however I think the general principles and philosophies will remain, and I think that will hold UK back. UK raised its level of play to try and dig out a niche in the SEC a few years ago, the thing is that the conference has taken another step up. Arkansas and STATE are going to be real players in the SEC in the future by my estimation, and Vandy is trying to make a move. I know Vandy has struggled this year, but they have a team that Im not sure we are gonna be able to beat next Saturday. With the SEC brand as hot as its ever been I wonder if UK shouldnt check around the country for a fiery offensive cordinator whos at a big school but is ready for a head coaching job. UK does play in the SEC and the football team does recieve support from the fans and higher ups so maybe we could attract someone. Do I know who Im talking about? No, but maybe there is someone out there, it looks like the strategy is going to work out for STATE.
This guy is a stud, but he cant do it alone.

At the end of the day I understand that it all boils down to talent, and we just dont have enough. We always have talented players, like a Kennan Burton, or Andre Woodson, or Randall Cobb, but we never have enough to compete week in and week out. However if we would be more daring I think we could make more waves than what we have. Next year we will have a solid offense behind Newton, Cobb, and Locke, but we will have to utilize them in ways that maximize them and hide our flaws. We cant rely so heavily on the pro style Joker likes, although Newton will have the arm to make plays more so than Hartline has the last two years, we still need a heavier dose of the Wildcat with Cobb and Locke in the backfield. Hell try the triple option with Newton under center, more split back sets to utilize our speed. In my opinion the only way we can get to 8 or 9 wins in the regular season is if we are the most daring team in the league. We are not going to be able to line up and go straight at most of the teams in the SEC without a mighty boom in recruiting, but thats what we always try to do. Mix that in with very conservative play calling and you get the holding pattern we are in right now. Its enough to keep us respectable, but how long before that gets stale to the Wildcat faithful?

Sherron These NUTS!!!

"Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, comes into our house and... (challenges the supremacy that is our super frosh, John Wall)."

Seriously, though, I'm a big Collins fan. The guy is super talented and is absolutely fearless. He's the kind of player that ANY fan would love to have on his team.... unless that fan already has John Wall. Collins may prove to have NBA talent, but he doesn't have 1st overall pick talent, and that's exactly what Wall has. I'll say this, however, I would absolutely LOVE to see these two square off in the NCAA tournament. Check nuts, Sherron.

BBM Notes

Well, fellas, we finally got to see our newest edition of Cats suit up in the Blue and White in a spectacle that has to have left even the most demanding of UK fans with an ear-to-ear grin. During the show, we had a glimpse at:

FORMER HEROES....

Mystery Guest: Rodney Dent

A NEW SIGNATURE LINE OF LEBRON FOOTWEAR...

Nice muscle tone, Darius. No homo.

BIG-TIME RECRUITS...

AND LASERS

When you add it all up, it equals one big whopping success. The anticipation, excitement, and expectation surrounding this team is as great as it's been for any UK squad in the past few years, and this latest installment of Big Blue Madness was an appropriate reflection of the newly restored hope we all have.

" WE GONNA RUN THIS TOWN TONIGHT!!"

Mystery performer? Could it be Great Hova?! ( Just for the record thats not a photoshopped pic.)

Smart money is that its gonna be Drake performing at BBM, but is that really the important part of this story? I think not. I think what should not be missed is just how sick UK basketball has become before we've even played a game, good lord what is going to happen when we start running over people, when Patterson averages a double double, and John Wall makes Sportcenters top 10 at least 5 times? I mean we are at a point where its not beyond the realm of possibility that JAY-Z is gonna be a guest at a glorified UK practice!!!!!!!!! Who cares who it turns out to be, the name UK basketball is in such an amazing place right now, it just doesnt even make sense.

The X-Factor?

This is something that has been on my mind for the last few days, do you all remember this guy? The most highly touted recruit of the 2008 class, and someone we were counting on to make us a better team in the future under BCG?

Point Guard has always been my favorite position in basketball, and growing up Penny Hardaway was my favorite player. So when I heard we were getting a 5* 6'6 PG last year I was beyond excited. Of course we all know that Liggo didnt have a great frosh campaign, as he stayed in BCGs doghouse, and made way too many mistakes when he got in the game. The fact that he was almost always out of control, and dribbled the ball too high, and couldnt shoot was not lost on me, but I still came away from last season excited about Liggins future at UK.

Despite his struggles last year, I feel confident that most people would agree that Liggins has the potential to be a dynamic player, when you are 6'6 with PG skills its hard not to. I can envision Liggins as a great defender at the 2 or the 3, someone in this offense that can get the rebound and blast off down the court, something BCG did not encourage. I consistently hear Coach Cal praising Liggins, sometimes he is the only player I hear Coach mention when hes asked who is playing good.

We know that Pattrick Patterson and John Wall are gonna be the best players on this team, and people assume that Bledsoe , Cousins, Orton, Miller, and Dodson are gonna be on their heels, but I fail to hear the fans ever mention Liggins. I think Liggins is gonna be explosive in this offense, his ability to drive, rebound, and pass are gonna be sensational when the team starts hitting its stride this year, and hes my pick for the X-factor on the team. If he can live up to the potential he had heading into Kentucky then I just can imagine another team that is gonna be as dynamic in how we can attack you. There will basically never be any let up at any position as we rotate players into the game.

What do you all think, have you cut ties with Liggo like many UK fans, or do you just simply have someone else in mind as the X-factor?

A Glimpse into the Crystal (basket)Ball?

Man just look at that 2009 class, are you kidding me? Alas, the 2009 season is nearly upon us, and we hard at trying to claim another # 1 class.

I know it hasnt escaped anyones attention that we have no 2010 recruits, but today thats poised to change. Honestly, the only way I can see Poole not choosing UK is if he really doesnt have a scholarship offer and has been using us to make a bigger name for announcing his college choice, or if he's just scarred of the competition. As it is, I dont think thats the case, and I believe we get our first Cat.

From there who knows, Im almost certain Poole will be the least unhearalded recruit in the class, and thats saying somehting. I think we really need to land Brandon Knight, because he is a knockdown 3 point shooter, and we need that in a bad way. Josh Selby would be no consilation prize though, as he possibly is a better fit for the DDM. Obviously we need a couple of Bigs to replace Patterson, Stevenson, and concievably Cousins. Luckily all indications are that we are in great with Leslie, and Chris has even been told he's ours to lose. The fact that Tobias Harris is coming to Rupp for BBM is the best news I've heard in a while, hes one of the best talents in this class and we are a major player.

Who knows about Doron Lamb, if we do in fact land Poole. I for one havent given up on Will Barton, Im not so sure that ship has sailed. Point is that today could mark the begining of 2010 UK basketball, and that has me awfully pumped up.

IT'S SHANES WORLD!! IT'S SHANES WORLD!!!

(The following is presented with limited commercial breaks by Mr. Shane Vanoy)

"Well, the unthinkable has happened, one of our own has left the fold. Jodie Meeks was really the key building block of this experimental juggernaut UK team Cal had cooked up in the lab, and now his career at UK is over. Jodie came onto the scene with a bang at UK, I remember telling Chris during the very first game of his career that Meeks was going to finish in the the top 10 in UK scoring history. When I saw him as an 18 year old I thought he had everything, he could shoot, penetrate, and moved so fluid on the court. Due to his hip injury as a sophmore my prediction will not come true, but I will always remember him as the best scorer at UK , outside Ron Mercer, that I ever watched.( I more or less missed the Monster Mash.)

I would be lieing if I said there wasnt a little bit of resentment inside me over the decision. ( Doesnt he know what he could be costing us?) These are of course just selfish thoughts that any fan will have, as Jodie deserves to live his life however he sees fit. Still for me, if he gets drafted in the second round, which seems very likely, it will be hard to ignore the bitterness that will surely rear its head. I mean after all, he could come back, compete for a national title, battle for player of the they year honors, and be on the tip of the tongue of all
college basketball analyst for a year and still be a SECOND ROUND pick next year. Despite that I sincerely wish Jodie the best and hope he goes first round and had a great career.

Sadly, I think Jodie will be lumped in more with the era he played for UK, and less for the unparalled scoring ability he displayed. I fear that he will simply be remembered as part of the failed BCG experiment, and not put on the same pedestal as a lot of UK greats. Theres really a disconnect between fans and UK players who leave early, Walker, Mercer,
Rondo, Buike, and a host of others never seemed to have the same support as guys like Prince and Hayes who gave us 4 years. Just the nature of the beast.

In the end Jodie is an all time great, and he achieved this in really just two years of playing for the Cats, and I will always remember him fondly, if not with just a twinge of saddness for what might have been. I think its safe to say that his 54 points is a record that will never be broken, and none of us will forget that one bright light in an otherwise troubling and dark time for UK basketball.

( Oh and if you are feeling sorry for our basketball team, take a drink of this picture. :) "

Keep this ish coming, Shane
