everyone do yourself a favor and check on the UK library party on KSR if you haven't already done so. it's freakin sweet! i'll admit that it gave this lil lud chills. there's just something about large groups of people that are screaming passionately about UK that get me emotional.

Jodie is the only proven outside shooter on the team. I'm not saying Hood can't but it's different at this level. MIller is consistant enough for me to call him a shooter so you will have question marks in that position.
Cal will go out for 2010 and get Gerald Henderson like players, ones that can slash and knock down the open shot. Xavier Henry was suppose to be this type but not as athletic.
Landing a PG that can start right away is good but remember he is a freshman so mistakes are imminant. You just hope the good outweighs the bad in most cases a la D.J Augustine.
I'm really shocked that Wall just said f what he said to his dad and go overseas for a year. He will still be top 10 next year regardless. He plays a lot like Brandon Jennings but I don't think he passes as well because he's a scoring PG. B.J is a true PG in every sense of the word. It would have been sweet to see him play with Chase Budinger.

- Jlud the jury remains way out on Dodson, whatever he did as a Juco matters very little to me because of the talent he was up against. However JC was recruiting him to Memphis when he already had no need to just take a Juco, so our head coach believes in the guy, and thats a good sign for us. Other scouts speak very highly of him as well, and ESPN graded him as a 90 out of 100. I think he is gonna see a lot of the minutes Jon Hood would have next year, cause they are similar, but he is more seasoned.
- I hope Eric Bledsoe was blown away by his visit this weekend and he commits to us. John Wall has pushed the trimming of his list down another week, please understand I have no problem how long he takes, any kid is entitled to take as much time as they want on this kind of decision. I would not cut Stewart because you will have a lack of size. You need rebounders and tip dunkers and he can bring that to the table. It will be weird to me if they both sign being that they can go start at other places most likely. Bledsoe will play back up or slide Wall to the 2, Jodie to 3 sometimes to get them all on the floor. Nice lineup but still mainly 1 shooter out there.
How do you think all these "stars" will fair when they aren't playing as many minutes as they are suppose to? These aren't Darnell Macks and Willie Kemps, these are some future NBA guys that he's trying to bring in.
I think Cal will be judge on whether he wins a soft conference or how he does against Top 25 teams. Last year he won 1 top 25 game so he better come better than that or prepare to get the blues.

I get that. 2 guys will start which leaves 4 on the bench at the PF/C spot. He likes athletic Bigs and Stewart is that. Stevenson is a senior so he may keep him, Harrelson can only shoot when he's wide open so I guess he could go. This team is full of guards and maybe 4 will play the bulk of the minutes. I'm not sold on Hood getting a ton of clock unless people are dead tired.
He has to play Jodie and Patterson major minutes and I don't see Hood taking time from Jodie because I see Cal playing him at the 3 to have a 3 guard front which is his usual M.O. Versatile line-ups will be in surplus that's for sure.
Does Hood know how to play D? He definitely won't see the floor if he doesn't. I will give Cal that, his players usually are solid defenders but usually because they are way more athletic or bigger than the competition. Didn't hold up against Mizzou or any other "Big" teams they played.
With your guys youth next year, do you expect early hick-ups then hitting your stride or do you expect all systems go from the first game? I know there will be duds on given nights because these kids will be playing against other tier players. Havin young PG's can be frustrating that's for sure even if they are super talented. I have yet to see Wall make a simple play though haha. That guy loves to be flashy. His highlight tape is hilarious though. He is pulling crazy And 1 moves in games. That beast will have to be tamed.

If Bledsoe commits, I doubt Wall comes...like I told both of the Luds...everyone keeps talking about how Bledsoe is willing to back up Wall for a year, but I haven't heard any reports that Wall is down with this situation. If you look at the schools he is considering, every one of them, he walks in and he has the PG position on lock (even Duke, Smith will be moved). I imagine he does not want to share time with another 5 star freshman (even if Wall gets the majority of minutes)...I just think if Bledsoe commits, then UK will look less appealing to Wall. I could be wrong.
Speaking of recruiting and scholarship availability....STATE is 2 scholarships over, I don't know what they are gonna do...I just hope it doesn't involve Varnado going pro...
It's crazy, if Varnado comes back, STATE will be a preseason top 15 team, and the favorites in the SEC most likely (unless UK gets Wall too)...but if Varnado leaves, we will probably be a bubble team.

- The media is going to be so in love with UK heading into next season, there is no way State is the SEC favorite, even if Patterson doesnt return. Now whether or not State will be the best team is debatable, but with Cal, Jodie Meeks, and the #1 recruiting class in the country the media will pick us, even if we dont land Wall, JMO.
- I agree this could hurt UKs chances with Wall, but if this noise is true, UK has to take this commitment. He is not some consolation prize, he is a 5* PG, and hes ready to play for us. John Wall has had ample time to commit to UK, or at least give us the right signals, so UK had to go after Bledsoe hard because he is the 3rd ranked PG in the class and we need a PG.

Shane, i've read that "uk/cal has sold bledsoe on possibly being wall's back-up for a year, then giving him the reins." my perception/understanding of this system is that no one player really has/needs the reins in order to flourish -- my point being that perhaps having one player will not necessarily hurt the other.

You are right that there are plenty of shots and motion for the 1-4 in the offense, and really a two PGs could do the same thing on the court as a PG and A SG. Put it this way, the PG spot was empty previously, and now there is a 5* PG there to occupy it, so though I dont believe its a death sentence, I do believe that the UK point guard opening has to be at least a tad less appealing than before. Yea, I heard rumors too...the reality is that the REAL RICK is one of the best recruiters in the business...in the past 10 years, he has gotten several 5-star recruits, mcdonald's all-americans, mario austin, lawrence roberts, etc....all to come to freakin' Starkville!! And every time people throw allegations of cheating, and he has never been in trouble...NEVER!!! So it is what it is...

yeah, it'll be interesting to see who leaves. it'd be like leaving school to transfer right after a squad of dime pieces just enrolled. sure you might not get any play, but just being around that ish would be so much better than before.

I get that. 2 guys will start which leaves 4 on the bench at the PF/C spot. He likes athletic Bigs and Stewart is that. Stevenson is a senior so he may keep him, Harrelson can only shoot when he's wide open so I guess he could go. This team is full of guards and maybe 4 will play the bulk of the minutes. I'm not sold on Hood getting a ton of clock unless people are dead tired.
He has to play Jodie and Patterson major minutes and I don't see Hood taking time from Jodie because I see Cal playing him at the 3 to have a 3 guard front which is his usual M.O. Versatile line-ups will be in surplus that's for sure.
Does Hood know how to play D? He definitely won't see the floor if he doesn't. I will give Cal that, his players usually are solid defenders but usually because they are way more athletic or bigger than the competition. Didn't hold up against Mizzou or any other "Big" teams they played.
With your guys youth next year, do you expect early hick-ups then hitting your stride or do you expect all systems go from the first game? I know there will be duds on given nights because these kids will be playing against other tier players. Havin young PG's can be frustrating that's for sure even if they are super talented. I have yet to see Wall make a simple play though haha. That guy loves to be flashy. His highlight tape is hilarious though. He is pulling crazy And 1 moves in games. That beast will have to be tamed.
bro, i too had a dream about our first game next season...seriously. i just saw the start of the game, but we scored 7 points in the first minute. and wall had one sick pass. he bounced the ball as high as he could so it would lop over a defender, then miller i think caught it at half court and passed it to someone else, and that person dunked it!
it was awesome! in fact, in the dream i think after the play was made i looked at you and said "OH MY GOD!"

well, it looks as if bledsoe is a done deal, and is going to come to lexington! now, if the wall rumors are true, and he does in fact come i will have the most glorious heart attack!
If Bledsoe commits, I doubt Wall comes...like I told both of the Luds...everyone keeps talking about how Bledsoe is willing to back up Wall for a year, but I haven't heard any reports that Wall is down with this situation. If you look at the schools he is considering, every one of them, he walks in and he has the PG position on lock (even Duke, Smith will be moved). I imagine he does not want to share time with another 5 star freshman (even if Wall gets the majority of minutes)...I just think if Bledsoe commits, then UK will look less appealing to Wall. I could be wrong.
Speaking of recruiting and scholarship availability....STATE is 2 scholarships over, I don't know what they are gonna do...I just hope it doesn't involve Varnado going pro...
It's crazy, if Varnado comes back, STATE will be a preseason top 15 team, and the favorites in the SEC most likely (unless UK gets Wall too)...but if Varnado leaves, we will probably be a bubble team.
That said, gettin' John Reik and Renardo Sidney out of nowhere is just downright hilarious...the REAL RICK is not only a damn fine recruiter, but he also has a way of keeping everything on the super low...STATE insiders didn't have a clue what was going on until it was all said and done...

Chris spoke with someone today who played at Ballard with Twanee Beckham(sp), and maintains his friendship with him, and he told him that they paid Sidney $750,000 to come to State. Just telling you what he heard, obviously not making any accusations, and Im not hating, just thought it would interest you.
- The media is going to be so in love with UK heading into next season, there is no way State is the SEC favorite, even if Patterson doesnt return. Now whether or not State will be the best team is debatable, but with Cal, Jodie Meeks, and the #1 recruiting class in the country the media will pick us, even if we dont land Wall, JMO.
- I agree this could hurt UKs chances with Wall, but if this noise is true, UK has to take this commitment. He is not some consolation prize, he is a 5* PG, and hes ready to play for us. John Wall has had ample time to commit to UK, or at least give us the right signals, so UK had to go after Bledsoe hard because he is the 3rd ranked PG in the class and we need a PG.
- For what its worth, Chris's Memphis guy still thinks Wall to UK 100% despite Bledsoe, and he thinks we land Brandon Knight in 2010.
Shane, i've read that "uk/cal has sold bledsoe on possibly being wall's back-up for a year, then giving him the reins." my perception/understanding of this system is that no one player really has/needs the reins in order to flourish -- my point being that perhaps having one player will not necessarily hurt the other.

- I dont know Chud, I'll comment on it some more tomorrow, but I do think they would be in eachothers way a little bit. You are right that there are plenty of shots and motion for the 1-4 in the offense, and really a two PGs could do the same thing on the court as a PG and A SG. However one of these guys is gonna have to dominate the ball and initiate the offense, if Wall comes it will be him regardless. Put it this way, the PG spot was empty previously, and now there is a 5* PG there to occupy it, so though I dont believe its a death sentence, I do believe that the UK point guard opening has to be at least a tad less appealing than before. Still if he comes here it will be for JC anyway, at least that hasnt changed.
It won't hurt them Chud but who really wants to go somewhere and not have a chance to compete for the starting job? I wouldn't concede a spot if I feel I'm better or can prove it on the court. Fuck rankings, let me at him but that's me. Bledsoe is not me.
UK will be the favorite without any doubt. Big rise in the media also can lead to big fall but everybody knows that. The spotlight will be on you guys so it's time to stand up or fall on your face. I doubt they fall on their face though.
Why don't he cut some of those other guards or make them transfer to make room for whoever he wants?
I don't think there is enough shots Shane being that if you have straight studs in the post as you do, they need touches so the guards can't just jack it up as they usually do. I know it's not his usual M.O but it will have to being that he has beyond quality post players(On paper besides Pat).

- Guys, no more tip toeing around people who dont like UK as much as we do, I just have to say it. UK IS GONNA BE SICK NEXT YEAR!! Everything people point out as potential problems are really nit picking, UK is going to have so much talent on the floor it should overcome some of the potential problems early. However I bet UK is a freaking Juggernaut by February.
-John Calipari has been at UK for about 2 months now and he has recruited the #1 class in the country. Think about that for a minute, we are too in the moment right now to really appreciate that fact, but one day we will look back in awe at how quickly he made UK legitimate again. Have no doubts, we are legit this very second, we have a team that can make the Final Four next year. Eric Bledsoe was the missing link of this class, a true PG, something we havent had since Rondo left.( I love you Ramel, God knows that much, but you werent really a PG, even though you played your ass off.)

Yea, I heard rumors too...the reality is that the REAL RICK is one of the best recruiters in the business...in the past 10 years, he has gotten several 5-star recruits, mcdonald's all-americans, mario austin, lawrence roberts, etc....all to come to freakin' Starkville!! And every time people throw allegations of cheating, and he has never been in trouble...NEVER!!! So it is what it is...
